The door is open for fresh powers to take charge in the Big 12 as the league embarks on a new era in college football. Those efforts to establish position begin in recruiting as teams make gains following a busy stretch of official visits in recent months.The race for the best 2025 recruiting class in the Big 12is heating up as commitment season takes off.So, how is the Big 12 team race taking shape heading into July?

The recruiting calendar is currently in a dead period for thenextthree weeks into late July. However, this is often the busiest time for new commitments after recruits sit down and weigh their options following on-campus visits.

Most of the top prospects in the 2025 class will be committed by the time the early signing period rolls around in December. So, these summer recruiting months are crucial to building a strong haul before the college football season kicks off.

16. Colorado Buffaloes — 85.63

Deion Sanders has not put much emphasis on recruiting high school prospects since arriving at Colorado, opting instead to use the transfer portal to increase the talent level in Boulder. The Buffaloes had the second-lowest ranked class in the Big 12 for the 2024 cycle and are at the bottom again for 2025. Nashville (Tenn.) Lipscomb Academy Top247 offensive lineman Chauncey Gooden will be a welcomed addition to Colorado in the future as it bolsters its front five.

Kansas State is off to a relatively slow start in the 2025 recruiting class as it aims to establish itself as a perennial top contender in the new-look Big 12. Momentum is starting to build, however, with eight new commitments in June. Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley Northwest offensive lineman Brock Heath is the latest newcomer to the Wildcats' haul as he chose to remain in-state over finalists Iowa, Kansas and Northwestern.

14. Iowa State Cyclones — 148.69

Iowa State won a handful of key recruiting battlesagainst rival Iowa to help jumpstart its 2025 commitment class. The Cyclones hold verbal pledges from four of the nine highest-ranked in-state recruits for the cycle. Algona (Iowa) three-star quarterback Alex Manske headlines the haul for head coach Matt Campbell. Atco (N.J.) Winslow Township three-star wide receiver Karon Brookins is one of the most recent additions for Iowa State in June.

13. BYU Cougars — 152.30

BYU held just two commitments in its 2025 recruiting class prior to this spring. Since then, the Cougars have loaded up on talented prospects, including eight that joined the haul in June. Hesperia (Calif.) Sultana three-star athlete Lamason Waller is the highest-rated of the BYU pledges and held more than 40 known offers prior to his commitment. He projects to play receiver for the Cougars in the near future.

12. Utah Utes — 158.54

Utah might be able to expand its recruiting grounds as it transitions to the Big 12. But Kyle Whittingham and the Utes are not going to change their winning approach too much. Las Vegas (Nev.) Arbor View four-star linebacker Christian Thatcher headlines the 2025 recruiting haul for Utah, which leans toward the defensive side withnine of 12 commits projected to contribute there. Folsom (Calif.) three-star edge rusher Nela Tupouis another name to know in this Utes class.

11. Baylor Bears — 158.76

Baylor has alreadysuffered four decommitments this 2025 cycle with two of those making their next pledge to a school within the Big 12. Still, the Bears made some moves in June to bounce back from those losses. Carrollton (Texas) Hebron three-star safety Bo Onu was a key addition for head coach Dave Aranda and the future of his defense in Waco. Baylor tapped into Oklahoma to land its highest-rated commit of the class — Pauls Valley (Okla.) three-star running back Caden Knighten.

10. Cincinnati Bearcats — 161.31

Cincinnati landed a pair of four-star prospects in June to help boost its 2025 recruiting class. Greer (S.C.) Riversidewide receiver Mikkel Skinner made his move early in the month before Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith cornerback Jahmari DeLoatch joined the Bearcats' haul a little more than a week later. Cincinnati still has some work to do if it wants to finish inside the top 50 nationally this cycle.The last time it did that was 2022.

9. Kansas Jayhawks — 163.44

Lance Leipold continues to build a respectable program at Kansas after years being at the bottom of the FBS. The Jayhawks' evaluation and recruiting efforts have improved since his arrival. This early 2025 pledge class has a few under-the-radar commitments, including Olathe (Kan.) three-star offensive tackle Juju Marks, who turned down numerous SEC offers to remain in the Sunflower State. Waukee (Iowa) Ankeny Centennial three-star linebacker Malachi Curvey picked Kansas over additional offers from Iowa State, Kansas State and Missouri.

8. UCF Knights — 169.42

UCF is a Big 12 program that is soon to gain more attention as it finds its footing in the league. The Knights had one of the best recruiting classes in the conference last cycle and are slowly climbing the ladder again for 2025. UCF holds three commitments from four-star recruits in this class, including Thomasville (Ga.) Thomas County Central Top247 safety Kendarius Reddick. He is joined by Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola four-star running back Taevion Swint and West Palm Peach (Fla.) Central four-star safety Tony Williams as the headliners of this haul for head coach Gus Malzahn.

7. Houston Cougars — 170.27

Houston might just be a sleeping giant in the Big 12. Sure, the Cougars struggled in their first season as a league member and have a new head coach in Willie Fritz, but the talent level continues to improve since he took over. A pair of Top247 recruits lead the list of commitments in the 2025 class for Houston. Jasper (Texas) four-star offensive tackle Demetris Dean and Arlington (Texas) Mansfield Summit four-star defensive lineman Travis Buhake are two key in-state pickups.

6. Arizona Wildcats — 174.05

Brent Brennan inherited an Arizona program with a ton of momentum and excitement in joining the Big 12. The Wildcats have a solid 2025 recruiting class up to this pointwith 15 new commitments in June. Carrollton (Texas) Ranchview three-star wide receiver Terry Shelton is among those newcomers to the pledge class for Arizona. He had Boston College, TCU, Illinois and Kansas among his finalists. Hughson (Calif.) three-star quarterback Robert McDaniel earned a spot in the Elite 11 Finals earlier this month and expects to be the future at that position in Tucson.

5. Texas Tech Red Raiders — 188.85

Texas Tech finished with the top-ranked recruiting class in the Big 12 last cycle and looks to repeat following a strong start to its 2025 haul. The Red Raiders added seven new commitments in June after a relatively quiet stretch. Frisco (Texas) Lone Star wide receiver Bryson Jones is one of 11 in-state pledges for head coach Joey McGuire and his staff. He forms a talented duo with Stephenville (Texas) Top247 wide receiver Tristian Gentry.

Kenny Dillingham and the staff at Arizona State certainly have their work cutout for them as they continue to fix the roster issues in Tempe. The Sun Devils have an impressive 2025 recruiting class so far as Pflugerville (Texas) Weiss four-star wide receiver Adrian Wilson headlines the haul. Corona (Calif.) Centennial three-star wide receiver Cory Butler is a speedster that should provide an extra gear to the Arizona State offense in the near future.

3. Oklahoma State Cowboys — 195.50

No Big 12 program in the new-look league has more consistency in winning than Oklahoma State. The Cowboys have an opportunity to establish themselves as the new power in the conference and that starts with a continued uptick in recruiting efforts. Eight new commitments in June headline this 2025 class for the Pokes. Most of those project to contribute on the defensive side with Port Arthur (Texas) Memorial four-star defensive lineman Michael Riles being the highest-rated. Oklahoma State also flipped Columbus (Texas) four-star quarterback Adam Schobel from Baylor back in April.

2. West Virginia Mountaineers — 197.50

West Virginia already has more than 20 commitments in the 2025 recruiting class after a busy June that included 14 new pledges. The Mountaineers currently sit inside the top 25 nationally in the team recruiting rankings and own one of the best classes in the Big 12. Delray Beach (Fla.) Atlantic three-star running back Deandre Desinor is a strong pickup for head coach Neal Brown as West Virginia beat out several programs in the Sunshine State for his commitment.

1. TCU Horned Frogs — 225.99

TCU has a comfortable lead at the top of the Big 12 team recruiting race for 2025. A trio of four-star commits headlined by Brownsboro (Texas) Top247 cornerback Micah Strickland has the Horned Frogs inside the top 15 nationally. Humble (Texas) Summer Creek four-star edge rusher Chad Woodfork and San Antonio (Texas) Claudia Taylor Johnson four-star quarterback Ty Hawkins are the other two Top247 pledges. Hawkins recently competed at the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles earlier in June.
